Choosing a remanufactured engine is not a easy as it seems. Lets get right to the point. Remanufactured engines are not fungible. Do you know what fungible means? Definition: being of such nature or kind as to be freely exchangeable or replaceable, in whole or in part, for another of like nature or kind.

To be more concise, lets say you want to buy a refrigerator, you like the Frigidaire model xxx1. So, Store # 1 wants 1000.00 dollars for the refrigerator, and store # 2 wants 1050.00 dollars, and store #3 wants 990.00 dollars for the refrigerator. Since all Frigidaire models xxx1  are exactly the same thing, it makes since to buy the least expensive one. Fungible items are equal to each other, it is as simple as that.

Remanufactured engines are not all the same. Although APRA has a specific definition for remanufacturing engines, unfortunately, not all remanufactured engine companies think the same way, causing variations from remanufacturer to remanufacturer. First off, you have the human error to deal with, for instance is the technician who remanufactures your engine properly certified as a remanufactured engine rebuilder?

What about the parts? Does every company use the same OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts, or do some of the companies opt for cheap Foreign made parts? Well, let me tell you that an engine re-manned with cheap parts might, and I use that word lightly, run properly in the beginning, but will it last as long as an engine remanufactured with OEM parts? Not very likely, making a cheap engine cost more than a good engine in the long run.

The last major element concerns the machining process required to renew the ‘hard metal’ parts that are ordinarily reused. Components like ‘the heads’ have to be thoroughly rebuilt, the engine block has to be machined, the crankshaft has to be resurfaced and plenty of other items need replacing and or machining.

Leaving out any of the above ingredients, or cutting corners on suggested processes blatantly breaks the unspoken code of ethics and  cheats the customer out of what they thought they were buying. Being true to ourselves and to our customers is why we have outperformed our competition for years.
